2009 Busy Bookworm Challenge

Have you seen this blog yet? If not, you need to. She came up with the 2009 Busy Bookworm Challenge and I am officially taking part in it!

The point of this challenge is to read more, even though life keeps us busy. You simply make a list of the books you want to read in 2009 and as you finish them you blog about them. If you don't have a blog don't worry, because I'll be updating you all regularly on my progress and asking about yours. This isn't something you can really fail at - you can always shorten (or lengthen!) your list, and if you don't read the books in 2009 you can read them in 2010. But it'll be fun to see what you've read at the end of the year don't you think? (For the original post about this challenge, click here).

So without further ado, here are my list of books to read by December 31, 2009:
  1. The Reader by Bernhard Schlink
  2. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
  3. The Girls from Ames by Jeffrey Zaslow
  4. The Romance Reader by Pearl Abraham
  5. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
  6. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
  7. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (My goal is to start this book in 2009!)
  8. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
  9. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
  10. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
  11. Love Walked In by Marisa De Los Santos
  12. One Jane Austen book (I haven't decided which one yet)
Here are the books I've already read this year (this will probably lengthen, but these are the ones I thought of immediately):
  1. Nickel and Dimed: On Not Getting by in America by Barbara Ehrenreich
  2. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (for a review click here)
  3. The Dogs of Babel by Carolyn Parkhurst (I was re-reading this one - review)
  4. What Happens In London by Julia Quinn
  5. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee (another re-read)
  6. All We Ever Wanted Was Everything by Janelle Brown
  7. The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan
  8. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
  9. The Same Sweet Girls by Cassandra King
So who's with me? Your list can be as short or as long as you want - and you can even grab a button for your blog (although when I tried to do this it was way too big - if it works for you let me know). I'd love to hear your thoughts - any books I have to add to my list?

Did you hear about the National Book Festival taking place on the National Mall this weekend? I was thinking of going, but I think my allergies have another idea. There is also a Northern VA Book Festival running the next two weeks at Mason sponsored by NOVEC, I think it's called Fall into a Book.

Oo, fun. I need to be better about doing book reviews. That is why I initally set up my blog but I have sucked at doing reviews lately!

Right now I am reading Olive Kitteridge. Next up will be Little Pink Slips, which was written by a girl from ND that works in the magazine industry in NYC. And then I hope to tackle Firefly Lane.

I haven't done as much reading as I thought I would on vacay. I am bringing a couple of books with me to Chicago though, so hopefully I"ll get alot of reading done then!!

I've read about half of the books on your to-read list & enjoyed them all so you have some great reads ahead of you!!
