Lovin' those locks

Sometimes I'm a wee bit impatient. (Hard to imagine, I know). This is especially true when it comes to my hair. It's thick and heavy and (when I don't have it layered), can sometimes give me headaches.

But. I want to grow it out so I can donate it to Locks of Love. They're a great non-profit organization that takes donated hair and from it makes wigs for children in the U.S. and Canada under the age of 21 who are suffering from any long-term illness.

(Love this quote!)

I'm excited to be doing this, but I also know I'm going to get impatient and I need all of you to help keep me on track.

What do you think? Has anyone donated their hair before? Any suggestions of things to do or not do? Anyone want to do this with me? Happy almost Friday friends!

I'm always growing my hair out and then chopping it off. The one thing I know for sure on Locks of Love is that it can't be color treated, or at least (especially) it can't have been bleached. So just be as nice as possible to your hair so that it's in the best condition it can be. Good luck! I'm currently thinking of growing out my hair again. So maybe when I get in the mood to chop it off after, I'll donate too if it's long enough.

I did this back in 2007. I grew my hair out for quite awhile and then chopped it off in the fall of 2007. Went from 1/2 ways down my back to my chin and it was a great experience for me. It required quite a bit of patience to put up w/ that long of hair, though. I am not a long hair person since I'm not very good at doing my hair!

I kind of forgot I did Locks of Love. Seems like so long ago now, but it was def worth it. I remember the day I went to do it - the hair girl was like, 'do you need a moment' and I was like - hell no, chop away!

Do it up! Sounds great. Wish I could join but my hair is not that long as is. So I will have to wait a bit before I can donate.

Best,

Hannah Katy

I donated my hair to Locks of Love when I was in High School before I started hiliting my hair. It was very long and very thick but Im very glad I did it. It is so worth the wait! I think its a great thing you are doing so I hope you stay on track! :D

When I chopped my hair in 2007 I missed the required length by like 2 inches. Bah! Haha. I think this is SOOOO cool of you though. I don't think I could handle growing my hair out now, I'm too in love with my short hair!!

My sister donated her hair one time... it was cool. My husband would KILL me if I chopped my hair off, though!

I would do it with you but I definitely would not meet the "natural" aspect...I think you know how often I've bleached, dyed, and highlighted my hair!

Plus I KNOW I wouldn't have the patience :)

This is a good idea, especially since my hair grows really fast. It was short-ish last year and it's mid back now nad I'm rady for a cut, but I don't think I have quite enough for Locks for Love. I think I have 9-10 inches to lose (to save room for styling). Does anyone know how long it needs to be for Locks of Love?

Gracie - if you go to the link in the post you can read all about their regulations. The hair has to be 8 to 10 inches long so you may have enough to donate now! If you do it send me before and after pics and I'll feature you on here!

I finally chopped mine off and will be sending it when I finally get around to it. I chopped off 23" for LOL and 2" went to styling. I typically let my hair grow for 4-5 years and then donate it. I personally like having long hair since you can put it up and do lots of styles with it, but am always amazed at the wonderful compliments I get when I cut it short.

It takes a bit of patience a nice conditioner and the knowledge that some teenage girl may get to wear your beautiful hair to her prom instead of a scarf.

I've done this many times as you already know. Your hair can have dye in it, it just can't be bleached, they need at least 10". I love donating to Locks of Love they always send me the greatest thank you notes for doing it. I also love the fact that I get to help a child. I'm growing out my hair again so we'll see how long it is after the baby's born that's usually when I cut it off so I'll join you on the journey. =)

I've tried to donate a number of times, but their rules are super strict! Each time I haven't qualified. I hope you do!
