Ever since Becky asked me to participate in her wanting to hear more from you series, I have been wracking my brain, trying to decide which topic to discuss. After vacillating between the various option, I've decided to write about something that I've been thinking about lately.

Love.
For those who read my blog, you know that I am a 29-year old single girl with more than my share of not-so-great dating experiences and awkward encounters. I've sometimes felt like my life could be made into an ABC Family movie. Sometimes I want to have a Charlotte York-like outburst. You know, the scene where she exclaims: "I've been dating since I was 15. I'm exhausted! Where is he?"
The more I date, the harder it is to believe that he's out there. I try to remain hopeful, but on the days when my believe of love is fading, I turn to one of my favorite authors - Mary Anne Radmacher - and read this poem about love.
love is a door
violence erupts, guns kill, bombs drop,
new ways of harm are strategized:
still believe in love.
leaders lie, politicians position,
large structure serve small interests:
still believe in love.
planet's poisoned, air's choked, creatures weep,
imbalances create great ills:
still believe in love.
romance strays, friends fade, family distances,
what is familar becomes uncertain:
still believe in love.
employment changes, plenty vacillates, education waivers,
questions produce uncertainty:
still believe in love.
your efforts will be met with disinterest,
your generosity will stand with resentment,
your vision will be discredited and the
reach of your hand will not be embraced...
still believe in love.
this great love is not the visit of an unexpected fate
but rather a
flame which is kept burning in spite of the winds of harm,
disappointment, risk, loss, and disloyalty.
belief in love
shines in a darkened room.
it is the single light which illuminates the door -
the door which opens to the promise of
a new hope.
The last stanza holds the crux of the message. Belief in love fuels the promise of hope. So I will keep on hoping and believing in love.
What do you think readers? Have you ever struggled with your belief in love? What has helped you when you've found yourself doubting the possibility of love?

I definitely had a hard time with dating, and a hard time believing that love was really out there! I actually swore off dating about six months before I met Mister- I got my own apartment and wasn't going to date until I was about 27! Aaaaand then I got married at 23. *rolls eyes*
I think that finding a guy who is really worth bringing into your life is like looking for a new best friend, it takes a lot of time and it's hard to navigate, but it's worth it in the end :)
I'm right there with you. I just keep telling myself that quote "while I am looking for you, you are looking for me" - and that makes me feel better. Hang in there.
Thanks for letting me guest blog, Becky! Like Katie said, when I am down about my outlook on love, I imagine that my counter part is somewhere out there, wondering, "where in the hell is she?"...
Awww I love that poem! So beautiful!!
I always remind myself to believe in love, yes, but also believe in HARD WORK and choices. Sometimes you have to overlook petty things that bother you because the person underneath is worth it :)
I still believe. Big time. Even despite the crap that surrounds my past dating experiences.
When I'm feeling down, I look up at the moon and remind myself that the dude I'm supposed to be with is looking at the same moon when he looks up towards the sky. I don't know why but for some reason that makes me feel better.
Holding that hope is important for your soul and the mere fact that you will find someone. There were times I would get frustrated and then think "you know what, i haven't found him yet, but i will." If we give up completely on love, we give up on ourselves and that opportunity to find some amazing gifts. Nice post, Lisa.
That is a beautiful poem ...I was very lucky about 10 years ago to meet my lovely Balazs and I belive that you will find your love too:)
Kisses darlings and Happy Thursday:)
