I've never canned anything...and I'm excited to try

By the time you're reading this I will be on my way to see Mandy for a glorious weekend of homemade applesauce and apple butter! (Actually most of you will probably be reading this while I'm still at work before I leave, but that's not nearly as exciting to say).

There are a few things you need to know in order to understand why I'm so excited for this weekend.

1) Mandy is awesome. Since I met Mandy and Nora in July I've become closer with them both, and I consider them friends now, not just "people I met through blogging." I can't wait to hang out with her again!
2) Apple butter is what sustains me in the fall. Seriously. My mother-in-law always buys me a jar (yes me, not Ben and me) around my birthday and it makes me squeal in delight. So when Mandy mentioned her grandpa (whom she calls Pap), makes his own apple butter every year I was beyond interested.
3) The idea for me to come to her house to help in the process of making said applesauce and apple butter was hatched when we met. We've been talking about this for more than three months! I am pumped.

Other things we'll be doing this weekend? Heading to Tim Hortons, Steak 'n Shake (we don't have either of those chains around D.C. and to say I'm obsessed with them is a bit of an understatement), and having an all-around great time!

I'll be back Monday with lots of pictures and maybe a video or two! Keep your fingers crossed I don't have sit in too much traffic tonight getting there!

What are your plans for the weekend readers? Anyone doing anything special for Halloween? What's your high/low for the week? Happy Friday!

Oh, and I got my first spam comment - I guess that makes me a real blogger now, huh? While it was kind of funny, I also don't want them all over the place so I've temporarily re-instated word verification - sorry, I know it's a pain!

Have fun and give Mandy a hug for me!!! I really wish I could be there!

Tonight we are going to a silent movie where a live organist will play the soundtrack. Tomorrow night we might scalp tickets and go to a hockey game.

Hi: Introducing T to two of my best friends
Low: Getting home on Tuesday night and realizing I had left my patio door open. It was 56 degrees in my condo. It took forever to warm up and the wind was so loud, it sounded like my windows were going to explode. So we slept horribly. :( And I NEED my sleep.

I laughed at the Tim Horton's comment. There's one at ever street corner here! :) The pumpkin spice muffin is pretty darn good.

I've always wanted to try apple butter. I canned salsa once and it didn't go that well. I think I want to try pickles next year!

Hey, I just got my first spam comment too! But since it's an actual company I got the idea that I might just review their product for the blog and see if I like it or not.

I've canned tomatoes before and it was great having them throughout the winter and adding them to dishes.

Why did you have to mention Steak N Shake? I live in TN but I'm in Virginia on work assignment. I miss the half and half milk shake from Steak N Shake. Half Chocolate, half banana. How I miss it.

Mmm...Steak N Shake. I love that place but it is definitely a once in a while type of place. It's not the healthiest! ;)

Have a great time!
