This weekend was too amazing to talk about it all at once, so today I'm just going to focus on Saturday. I mentioned the tradition I do with my best friend Megan and Saturday was just as awesome as ever. We went to Montpelier, which was James Madison's home. I learned a lot (I didn't realize Madison was so academic!) and the property was huge and gorgeous. (Warning: heavy image post)
There were a few tents set up where the outside kitchens had been and employees of Montpelier were using authentic recipes and cooking the way it was done back in Madison's day. (It was hands-on too so we got to help!)
Seriously people. These gardens were incredible!
We topped off the afternoon with a visit to Michie Tavern. It has incredible home-cooking and delightful cider. Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm.
We had such a great time, and I really did learn a lot! I now want to read a biography of Dolley Madison. Any suggestions?
How was your weekend readers? Tomorrow: Mount Vernon with Stevie!

Kisses and enjoy your Monday
What a fun weekend! It's so cool that you live in such close proximity to so many historical sites! Looks like the weather was gorgeous, too!
FUN! I'm so jealous of you!
How AWESOME was this!! I love love love getting to visit historical sites - my favourite part of my trip this summer was being able to stand in a place that was over a thousand years old and still see remnants of it from those days... incredible. I love your pics, can't wait to hear the next installment!
So much fun! I bet the gardens are gorgeous and would love to visit in the late spring when flowers are out. Ok, so I would love to visit any time. =) So happy that the weekend was a great one for you!
Ah beautiful! I have always admired the Madisons. What a brilliant couple.
Looks like a lovely weekend =) Glad you had so much fun!
Looks like so much fun with gorgeous weather!!! I'm jealous that you were in a t-shirt. It's definitely too cold for t-shirts here!
That looks like a brilliant weekend! And I second Amber with the t-shirt jealousy, enjoy it for us!
I am a nerd and love me some James Madison. At MSU, I was in the James Madison school. ;)
That sounds like so much fun! Looks like you had a great weekend :)
