Big picture, small details

Awhile ago I decided to run a 10K. I trained. I hurt. I called myself a runner. And things didn't go according to plan.

Today is the race I was training to run. It's a little bittersweet because while I don't have aspirations of being a rock star in the running department, it would have been cool to do.

But I'm trying to focus on the positive.

So today? I'm thankful for my health. The two biggest things that have happened to me health-wise were a fracture in my foot in high school (although remind me sometime to tell you the story of how that happened), and needing my gall bladder to be removed a year and a half ago. Both were painful but all went well and healed fine. So really? An aggravated illiotibial band? Not such a big deal.

I have a lot to be thankful for health-wise. So I'm going to focus on that today - and how proud I am of my friend Brooke who's running the race!

I definitely had that injury last year- got patella tendonitis and basically couldn't run for over a year without pain. It's not perfect now but I can handle running a couple of times a week. The good thing is I learned how to do other forms of exercise- like biking, the elliptical, walking, and I even took some trampoline classes. I also learned how to rest a little better :) So I guess like you said, it was bittersweet.

Today I'm thankful for a relaxing weekend!

Being thankful for good health is such a big thing- I'm glad that you're taking care of yourself! I've never broken a bone, but I have chronic back pain that's really lame to deal with and sometimes interferes with day to day life. Taking care of yourself, and taking it slow is so vital :)

I was unable to run a half marathon I was training for earlier in the year due to hip bursitis. It hurt and it sucked and I whined a bit. Then I got over it. Another day, another race. Hopefully I'll be able to move for the next one! Hope your IT band is feeling better!!

Lately, I've been extra thankful for my health, especially as I wonder if there's something wrong with me. I'm crossing my fingers it's just allergies! But it does make me grateful that this is the first time I've ever been worried about my health in 23 years! :)

We totally need to be thankful for our health, it is such a fleeting thing.

As you know, I was just injured and it sucked :( But we need to LISTEN to our body when it tells us things. That is one thing I absolutely learned from my injury!

I am also very thankful for my health! I really have not had ang significant health problems. Runningwise - I did have knee trouble in the spring but luckily after seeing a PT, the problem went away. I still am prob not 100% healed, but I am able to run, so that is good!

Hey Lady...I'm so sorry that I was so selfish. I didn't even consider that that was the race you were training for :). I'm lame.

In regards to an injury that altered my plans..I fractured my foot when I was in undergrad after a car ran over it. It taught me to ask for help alot and really humbled me. You can't carry a tray in the cafe if you're on crutches and books, yeah right. It made me learn to laugh at myself and accpet help and for that, I'm grateful.
