For the Vets

In the U.S., today is Veterans Day. A day dedicated to honoring the service men and women of our country who have sacrificed to help keep this country safe.

Both of my grandfathers were in the service. One in the Army, one in the Army Air Corps (aka the Air Force before it was "really" the Air Force). Between the two of them there are purple hearts, distinguished flying crosses, and countless acts of bravery that I'm sure I don't even know about.

I have the privilege of working with a lot of active military members. It's so easy to take for granted all they've done and will continue to do, and I think that's because everyone I've met who has been or is in the military always brushes off the big things by saying "it's my duty." That might be so, but it's still a choice to make that a duty. One they willingly choose to make over and every day they put on that uniform.

So I'd like to ask you to take a moment today to say thanks. Whether that's in the form of a letter to a wounded solider at a hospital, sending things to troops overseas, shaking the hand of someone who once served, or placing flowers on the grave of a soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Soldiers don't always come back from war. And the men and women who are willing to risk their lives to keep us safe? I salute you. I thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

What a beautiful post. Both of my grandfathers were in the navy, my dad was in the army, and many friends have served in one capasity or another. These are the men and women who should be honored and remembered every day.

Both of my grandfather's served as well and my Gram was in the Navy as a nurse for awhile. Some of my family is enlisted, and many of my friends are. Today is a much more special day to me than it used to be. I guess I'm more aware of all that goes on and into being part of the service. So appreciative!

My paternal Grandfather served in WWII. I wish I had asked him more about it... He's since passed, so that is a missed opportunity.

This was a very well written post!!

My great grandfather served in WWII. Or, he was in the army but I'm not sure if he ever went off to war.

Anyways, beautiful post. It's definitely important to remember the men and women who fought for our countries today.
