The afternoon of Christmas found me in the kitchen at my in-laws, learning how to make rolls from scratch. You see, my mother-in-law makes these rolls. Rolls that my husband asks every year if she's going to make.
I've never worked with yeast or dough so I was really nervous! However, my mother-in-law was so sweet and encouraging - letting me know I had just enough flour, I was kneading it well, and that no one would be able to tell the difference between the ones she or I rolled. I could tell you about it, but it'd be more fun to show you!
Letting the dough rise...
...and then punching it down!
The end products were delicious if I do say so myself - and it was such a fun mother and daughter-in-law activity!
Have you ever made something totally from scratch?

They look SO yummy. (Kind of hungry right now, I'll admit it!) What a cool experience.
Also: HI! I miss you! I promise I'll catch up soon.. after we move, yes? xxx
Oh my gawd! You didn't tell me how they were in those adorable little croissant shapes. YUM YUM YUM! I want some :)
they did look scrumptious! congrats on a successful kitchen endeavor.
i make stuff from scratch all the time, and nothing tastes better!! be carfeul tho; if your rolls came out as good as your MIL's, Ben might start requesting them every week!
Oh wow - those look yummy. My GF heart aches a bit for good bread... I have yet to try to make GF bread. The stuff I buy in the store is so God awful, I really want to try GF bread this year. But the recipes intimidate me!!
I've done a lot of 'from scratch' baking as I grew up in a house where you just DID NOT buy box mixes for things. :) My mom is an awesome baker. :) The only thing I make these days is GF banana bread, which tastes awesome. But this month, I am going to try to make macaroons as that is something I want to serve at my 30th bday. So a friend and I are gettign together to try to tackle that - it involves a pasty bag so we are both a little nervous! ;)
Send me some? They look amazing!
Something completely from scratch!? Do brownies and cakes and cupcakes count? Cause all of those I make totally from scratch, no mixes or oils or anything. I helped make pizza dough when I was little, but that was ages ago!
Congrats on your first attempt at making the rolls. Looks like a great success to me =)
