You remember that?

The mister and I were on our way home from the store the other night, when I asked him "do you remember brags?" He grinned, and replied, "oh yeah, I remember brags."

Brags were something our elementary school did over the announcements. Your parents could call or send a note into the school to "brag" about something you did, it would be announced over the loudspeaker either in the morning or afternoon, and you'd get a gold certificate as a keepsake, reminding you of the awesome thing you'd done.

I was smiling to myself, dreaming up an idea of a blog post about brags, when Ben goes, "that's how I learned you did gymnastics."

Me: What? What are you talking about?
Ben: A brag is how I learned you did gymnastics. They announced a brag the first time you did a back handspring.
Me: You remember that?
Ben: Yeah. I remember that.

Sometimes I forget. I forget that just because Ben and I have known each other since first grade, that there are still things to learn about each other.

Sometimes I forget that it's unusual to have known your spouse that long. Like when I gloss over it in a conversation with a co-worker and they say, "Wait, what? You've known your husband since the first grade? How incredible!"

Sometimes I forget what an amazing story we have. That part of the reason I'm absolutely 110% myself with him is because he's seen me in all the phases of my life. As a tough redhead on the playground, as a marching band member in high school (I don't want to hear any cracks about band - I marched with a sousaphone before I was five feet tall), a social butterfly in college, to the woman he asked to become his wife, who's growing next to him and with him each day.

Sometimes I forget. But I love being reminded.

Awww that's so cute! I've "known" Eric since we were in first and second grade too but we were never friends growing up. It wasn't until we went to the high school that we were friends and then g/f and b/f.

BUT I do remember in grade 9/10 science class we were lab partners once :)

How fun! I actually didn't meet husband until I was a sophomore in high school, and he was a senior. I didn't meet him at school either. I met him online (through xanga.com) while I was living in Florida for seven months after my Granny passed away. He commented on my page and said he hoped I could come home soon so I'd be happy. When we moved back to Tennessee, we ended up being in the same sixth period class, and I had NO IDEA he was the same person until a few days later. (He knew exactly who I was, though.)

It's so great to learn new things about someone, even if you've known each other for years and years!

What a sweet memory - and how cute that he remembers hearing about your first back handspring! Too cute!

This is such a sweet story about the two of you. I love that you've known each other that long and have seen each other through all the life phases.
