A dapple of my book club

A couple months ago, my book club visited a nearby Frank Lloyd Wright house after reading the book Loving Frank. We recently finished The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown (review coming soon!), and thought it would be fun to do another "field trip."

Since The Masons played such a big role in the novel, Saturday morning found us at the George Washington Masonic Memorial. We missed the guided tour, so instead we wandered around on our own and had a blast. (And what kind of blogger would I be if I didn't provide pictures?)
A little girl was counting the steps as she climbed them - 64, in case you were wondering.
What you see looking out from the temple.
Harry Truman was a big participant in the Masons - who knew?
This was the ceiling in the theater room - look at that detail!
I'm not sure if I was supposed to go on stage in the theater but sometimes I like to risk it.
This picture is a little blurry but it cracks me up. Doesn't it look like GW is trying to cut me with his trowel? (That's my scared face, by the way).
The chair they made for George Washington to sit in because the chairs made back then weren't big enough to hold him. (He was at least six feet tall - not the average height by any means).
What do you think readers? Have you ever been to the Masonic Memorial? Do you know anything about the Masons? My book club's not meeting again until the end of July but I think our next trip will have something to do with a winery. (More on that later!)

How was your weekend? Happy Monday!

I love that your book club takes these little field trips! So fun. My local club dissolved last month as we were struggling to get enough people and one of the co-leaders is moving. I am bummed but at least I still have my blogger club!

I don't really know anything about the Masons!

Now I'm trying to figure out what kind of field trips my book club can take and then choose some books accordingly...it's not so easy in the midwest :)

FUN! And what a fancy building! I love that George Washington was considered very tall back in the day. I remember reading that his height was one of the reasons he became a leader... cause people looked up to him, ha. Now he would just be a regular guy!

My weekend: BUSY! Engagement photos! Dinner with a friend! Moving! Birthday celebrations! It was wonderful but so busy.

Fun! I always wondered what it looked like inside that masonic temple. My uncle and a few of my family's friends are masons. I've tried to get them give up the big secrets but they don't budge. =)
