Fancy Friday

A week ago, my book club met, with the idea of having a "fancy" meeting. I kept saying it was Fancy Friday, so today I thought I'd share! Brooke was the host, and the one who put together all the loveliness you're about to see.

She said she'd been reading my blog, so she knew how much of a hummus kick I'd been on lately...

Look how pretty!

We had a breakfast for dinner theme, which included quiche, a light salad, crackers and dip, and some ah-mazing baked apples. (Recipe coming soon, I promise!) I'm not great at cutting things, so when I started serving the quiche...well, let's just say it didn't really look all that fancy anymore. And some people insisted I show you the results of my serving abilities.
(It doesn't matter what it looks like - just what it tastes like, right? Don't judge me).

And for dessert? Caramel apple spice cake. Words can't even describe.

Our meeting coincided with the first day of autumn which was perfect! We had a fancy meal, and fabulous conversation - only some of which centered around the book. (We read The Elegance of the Hedgehog and none of us finished it - we wanted to like it but just couldn't get into it).

I can't wait until our next meeting!

Are you part of a book club? If so, do you ever try to do creative or out of the box type stuff for your meetings? What have you been reading lately?

I hope you have a fancy Friday!

Wow, that IS fancy! I am part of a food book club - "Banquets and Books" - and we just read books about food! But lately I've been skipping a lot, unfortunately.

Wow, that IS fancy!! What a fun night! That is too bad that you guys did not like that book! I really liked it, but I know it was quirky.

I used to have a local book club and we would meet up for happy hours. It dissolved this spring as most of the girls had babies and their lives were just not conducive to book club get togethers anymore. i still have the online one hosted by Emily, though!

I am so jealous of your book club! I would love a post on how you guys manage your club - how you pick books, when you meet, etc... That is always something I've wanted to do, but it seems hard to get everyone on the same page (har, har har!)

I wish I was part of a book club - I've heard it's actually more about drinking wine and chatting with friends and not about the actual books, which is fine by me!

Your meal does look fancy (and delicious!). I, too, suck at cutting things! I figure a pile of cake still tastes as good as a slice of cake, right?!

I REALLY want to do a book club but don't really know any people who are into reading or would be interested. I always feel a little jealous when I read about other people's book clubs though :) I do participate in the online one that Emily hosts!

I actually was just invited to join a book club in the Boston area. It's a little far to travel, but I'm going to give it a go!

Those pictures are making me hungry!!! They're also very Christmas-y, which, I am totally excited for :)

I am in two book clubs. Emily's online and the one I started over the summer, Books 'n Bars! We met this week too and I was the only that wasn't overly impressed with the book we read (The Murderer's Daughters), guess I didn't realize I was the critical one in the group, but apparently I am! ;)

First of all, I love breakfast for dinner. My MIL always cooks my birthday meal and I always request breakfast!

It's a shame that a book with such a cute title doesn't live up to it. I hate reading a book when I feel like I'm fighting through it--might as well move on to something you will LOVE.

I tried having a book club once, but it fell apart. We got through one book and everyone lost interest. Why don't more people read anymore? Sheesh.

I'm bad at cutting things TOO!! It's horrible at the girls' birthday parties!

I am only in an online book club, but I actually love that as it's less pressure and obligation and just a fun way to talk about books :) But your book club looks fantastic too, too bad none of you liked the book!

Oh MY, looks like you had a beautiful night. I'm mouth-watering over that caramel apple spice cake. It looks to die for, can you ship a slice or a recipe right over to NYC?!;-)
