Let there be light

When we moved, the mister and I had to figure out how to make things work in the space we have, and while we've tried to be more minimalistic, we still have stuff. I want where we live - whether it's a one-bedroom apartment or a huge house - to feel homey, not just a hodgepodge of clutter. I figured this series would be a fun way to share!

As I was thinking about what to post about next for this series, I was curled up on my bed, reading, and loving how cozy I was in that moment. And then...(bear with me)...a light bulb went off.

No literally, the bulb in my night side bed lamp blew and I wasn't sure if we had any extra so I could replace it. I realized how nice it was to have a light to read by, thus my post for today. (My life is thrilling, I know, try to contain your excitement!)

I truly think lamps make a difference though. I love overhead light fixtures because they're easy and they get the job done, but table lamps just seem cozy to me. We received all the lamps in these pictures from our wedding registry and it's amazing how so much has changed since we got married, but I still love these lamps as much as the day we unwrapped them. Not surprisingly, I'm drawn to the details of them.

Are you a big fan of non-overhead lighting? Do you like the aesthetics of lamps or is that not your thing? Happy Tuesday!

I like lamps, but I prefer over head lights because I am too lazy to turn lamps on. Yes, I know, that is pretty stupid. But I do love the soft glow of lamps! I need more for my condo but have yet to get around to purchasing more...

I love those lamps! So pretty! And I agree, the lighting from lamps is much more cozy than overhead.

Actually now that you've posted this I just realized we only have one lamp in our whole house! It's in our living room because that's the only room WITHOUT overhead lighting!

I do think lamps are cozy but we just don't have any. I'm like Lisa and can be really lazy about turning them on, as sad as that is. Heh.

It depends on the house. Some rooms in our home are too dark and could benefit from more overhead lighting. But some don't really need it. The best option for me would be both! Overhead lights on a dimmer and end table lamps ;) I like options!

Ooh I love your lamps! I think the lighting really depends on the room. To tell the truth I'd prefer natural light everywhere, but obvs that's not possible ;) Our current place is pretty small and we only have three overhead lights - one in the dining room which is useful, one in the kitchen, and one in the bedroom which we only use when we're cleaning. We have lamps set up EVERYWHERE, really. In a one-bedroom apartment we have, um... nine or ten lamps. They're so cozy!

My parents just got these lamps:

(whoa, that is a long link)

And, they are SO PRETTY! The picture doesn't even do it justice. I stare at them in envy every time I am at their house. Lamps are so much fun and give the prettiest soft light!

I hate overhead lighting. Something about it bothers me, and I end up feeling all overstimulated. (because I'm a total weirdo)
