The one with the birchbox

Awhile back, I won a three-month subscription to Birchbox from a giveaway Ashley hosted. I've heard a lot about it, so I was really excited to try it out! Birchbox is a beauty site where you can watch videos and tutorials, buy products, and most importantly, subscribe (it's $10 a month) and receive four to five samples of products each month.

The first month I received a box was September - right around my birthday and perfect timing if you ask me. September was Birchbox's anniversary month so it was a little different than a "traditional" box you would receive. They had been in business for a year, so they filled the box with products that had been "favorites." Maybe I'd built it up in my head too much, but I was disappointed.

At least it looks pretty, right?

Kate and I were texting about it - and for an "anniversary" edition, we thought the items in September's box (a yarn bracelet, perfume I had a bad reaction to, moisturizer, and some pretty hideous applique press-on nail strips), made it seem like they were going out of business, not celebrating it! Needless to say I was not impressed, but hey, it was free, and we'd see what the next month brought.

I'm happy to report, October was much better.
Redken spray on shine, mints, lip exfoliator, facial/exfoliating scrub, and mascara

So far I've at least tried all the samples from my October box, if not used them up! (I love the Blinc mascara and those lime mints are a staple in my purse now). I rated the products on the Birchbox site as well, because that earns you points that can be used towards purchases.

I'm excited to see what my November box brings. Will I re-up my subscription at that point? I'm not sure. Part of me thinks since I don't use an extensive amount of beauty products it's too hit or miss for me, but I like getting a package in the mail each month, and there are products I would have never known about that I now love. The November box might be the deciding factor!

Do you have a Birchbox subscription? What do you think of it? Would you want to try it out?

(Psst - Have you entered my giveaway yet? You only have until 7 PM EST tomorrow night! What are you waiting for?)

I've been hearing about Birchbox EVERYWHERE! I want to try it out, but I'm like you, I don't use an extensive amount of beauty products. But it's a good way to try some things out and see what you like.

I'm curious about it, but since I am trying to trim down what I own and the fact that I like my current beauty routine that I'm not sure it's worth it. I'll be curious to hear how your November box is.

I've seen this and honestly, its not something that I would subscribe too. I go to the QVC Beauty Bash annually and have more beauty type products than I know what to do with. I'm hoping that November brings you good things. =)

I'm not big on beauty products (I don't even wear makeup), which is why I decided to try Birchbox! I wanted to find more products that I could include in my routine. I received my first box this month, and I actually liked it. I got the blinc mascara, foot cream, pangea facial scrub (LOVE!), and some hair gel. I'm looking forward to next month!

That facial scrub looks interesting. My concern would be my skin not liking some of the products. But I suppose you could always pass them on to your sister/mom/MIL if it's not your taste. Not sure I would purchase the subscription...but I do like surprises! :)

I've been getting Birchbox for about 9 months now and I LOVE IT. I am also a product junky and love being able to try out new things. I love how the samples you get are big enough that you can use the product for at least 2 weeks which is really enough time to see if it will work for you. It's allowed me to try some brands/products I would've never known about otherwise.

Some months are definitely more exciting then others, but I find I feel like I get my $10 worth every month :)

Honestly, I've never heard of it. And I don't think I would check it out. I'm more of the go to the store and see what I can find on sale girl, try it and if I don't like it? I won't buy it again. I'm not hugely into beauty products... maybe I should be? Not sure. I am however intrigued by any and all kinds of mascara. That's just a fact :)

thanks for the honest review and sharing!

I just joined, and the September box was my first. Funny that you said you had a reaction to the purfume- I loved the scent, and want to buy a full-size bottle! I'm happy with Birchbox so far!

This sounds like a really sweet deal - and only $10? I might be interested. I love samples like this and I love getting things in the mail!

I don't really use many products as it is so not sure if this would be useful to me (or if it's even available in Canada) but it sounds like a really cool idea!

I hadn't heard of it until you mentioned it on twitter. I don't think it is something I would want because I feel like I have so many other little samples of stuff and it just accumulates until I take the time to throw it away!

I've heard about it a few times (and honestly - I'm glad that October's box was better!) but I don't know that I use beauty products often enough to splurge on this.

I like Birchbox because I'm not particularly adventurous with my beauty routine but am also not particularly happy with it, either. I like getting samples of things I'd never find or think to buy - until I can try them & realize they're worth my money! For only $10 a month, this feels totally worth it to me, even when the products are a little off. Hoping November brings me better things!
