Let me help you rally

Okay, so I've talked and talked and talked about More Love Letters. Last week I even introduced you to the 12 Days of Love Letter Writing. But in case you have been hiding under a rock missed it, bear with me for a moment while I tell you about the most heart-warming, soul-fulfilling project I've ever been a part of.

The World Needs More Love Letters is a community of love letter writers who write and leave letters across the map in hopes that the right people will pick them up. We leave them everywhere - books, coffee shops, coat pockets, trains. Love letter writers document the letter writing and dropping through photos, blog posts, and social media. Each month we take an extra special letter request and send it to our email subscriber list. Those on the list have 10 days to script a love letter for the individual in need and mail it to our P.O. Box. We then bundle up the love letters and mail them to the unsuspecting recipient with a letter from on top to explain just why they are holding a pile of stationery from strangers.

For the month of December, instead of one bundle, we are sending off twelve! We are creating 12 Love Letter Bundles for 12 individuals (all requested secretly by someone in their life that cares about them) across a 12-day span. From December 5-17 we have been highlighting an individual in need of some extra encouragement in the form of handwritten notes and are asking people to write a letter and send it to our P.O. Box to be bundled up and mailed off to the person.

That brings us to today. Still with me? Because this is the best part. I'm sharing today's love letter request with you - and asking for your help to send some love and encouragement!

Today's love letter request is for Alenka.

Last year, Alenka was diagnosed with cancer. After five intense months of chemo, her cancer went into remission, only to come back three months later. Her doctors have told her that all there is left to give her is time. Her daughter wrote, "She's in a very dark place sometimes...hopeful that something can be done and willing to fight but also scared that time with her loved ones is coming to an end." Alenka's daughter believes that love letters offering hope and encouragement would do wonders for her mother.

I'd planned on showing you a picture or two of my letter and maybe talking about my experience in writing it. But I was so moved by this request, and I want you all to be as well that I had to share it. Here is my letter to Alenka.

Dearest Alenka,

I'll be honest - starting this letter to you is hard. You've been through so much that I'm sure you're exhausted. Let me help you rally.

Maya Angelou once said, "Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, and penetrates walls to arrive at its destination FULL of hope."

I know you're tired, and I know you're uncertain of the future, but OH MY GOODNESS you are LOVED! By your friends, by your family, and oh so much by the people writing you these letters.

Let us be the hope for you. Think of our words when you grow weary of the fight. We will be the strength when you think you don't have any left. Because you do.

You can continue to be the marvelous woman you always have been - and know that you have tons of people rooting for you!

I'm wishing you all the peace and joy and love possible - this season...and always!

I need your help so we can send Alenka the biggest and brightest bundle of love possible! Would you write a letter to her? It doesn't have to be long, and it doesn't have to solve the world's problems - it just needs to give a little encouragement - and it only takes a few minutes!

Please mail your letters within one week of this post to:

Alenka's Bundle
P.O. Box 2061
North Haven, CT 06473

If you take pictures of your letters, tweet @moreloveletters or put them on The Love Letter Facebook wall - we would LOVE to see them!

I know some of you have already written letters, but can you find it in you to write one more?

Happy letter writing!

Your letter is lovely. I love that phrase, "Let me help you rally." We all need to hear that sometimes.

I just discovered More Love Letters yesterday and have written to Alenka and Denise. This is such an incredible, worthy cause -- I'm so thankful to have come across a post about the project! Your letter to Alenka was wonderful, and I hope the support for her and the many other letter recipients is strong and encouraging. Merry Christmas!

Your letter gave me chills! My heart breaks for her - and for her parents. :( I think the worst thing would be to outlive your child...

I will definitely write a letter this weekend!
