Dear Future Me

Hi readers! Today I'm participating in a blog swap that I'm really excited about! Jenny and I found each other through blogging and she's so sweet and full of creativity I wished she lived closer! (Unfortunately Virginia and Texas aren't quite next-door-neighbors). Whether it's through her sweet blogging, or her creative shop, I love her energy. (I mean, look how she announced she was expecting - is that not the most awesome thing ever?) But I should stop rambling - it's time you hear from her!

When Becky asked me to do a guest post, I knew that it had to be special. One of the prominent themes of Becky's blog, and one of the things I love most about it, is personal growth. I always leave her blog feeling encouraged to do something better for myself, or to improve my life and relationships. That being said, I want to share with you a fun little exercise that I think is great for self-growth, and it's just really fun.

One of my "24 before 25" goals was to write a letter to my future self. I used futureme.org, which is an amazing site because you can set the date and they will email your letter to you on whatever date you set. In my case they will send it to me a year from now. I wanted to use this letter to remind myself of things I don't want to forget, offer myself some advice that I want to remember, and to express my dreams for where I see myself in the next year. I love the idea that I will probably forget all about it and when I finally receive my letter it will be totally unexpected. I may not remember what I wrote; I may even be embarrassed by some of it, but I know that I will still learn from it.

So without further ado, I want to share with you some excerpts from my letter.

"One of the things that I hope you remember and continue to cherish is how sweet Tyson is to you...he never lets you forget how much he loves you."

"Take life day-by-day. Don't get too worked up thinking about the future or wanting everything right now!"

"It's amazing how things don't turn out how we plan, and it's completely okay. Five years ago I wouldn't have thought I would be where I am now, but I also didn't realize I could be so happy despite my life being different than I imagined. In a year from now, I see my life going through some changes, but even if it goes in a different direction, I know I will be fine."

What do you want your future self to know?

Isn't this such a cool idea? I'd never even heard of this site! Do you think you'll write a letter to your future self?

Be sure to head over to Jenny's blog to read my post today, on being grateful. (It might not be exactly what you were expecting!)

Happy almost Friday!

I think I more so need a letter from my future self right now, telling me everything is going to work out. Ha. But... if I wrote a letter to my future self, I'd tell her that no matter what life looks like, I should feel thankful to have so many wonderful friends, a supportive family, and a great job. And I'd tell my former self to not lose that passion for discovery. And I'd tell my former self that I hoped I was still open to finding love (if my future self is not married) - that is the toughest one of all, I think, as after years upon years of dating, it's really hard to keep your heart open and remain hopeful.

I think I'd want my future self to remember that there is more good than bad in this world, even if it doesn't seem like it. That someday I'll look back on all the craziness that has been my life for the last year and be so glad that I/we went through it, came out stronger for it, and how happy I am/we are now. That's what I want to tell myself.
