A little earthy, and a whole lot of pretty

I normally do my Eat it, Read it, Need it series before featuring an Etsy shop, but I wanted to change it up this month because I'm so excited for this feature! Today I'm happy to introduce you to Megan, the creator behind the new Etsy shop, Emory Sage.

How did you get started with your Etsy shop? Is this something you want to make a full-time business? Opening an Etsy shop is something I have wanted to do for years. I tried a while back, but I wasn't very interested in what I was trying to make. Then, I learned to finger-knit, and after knitting a few scarves, I decided it was time. I also really wanted to find my inner Crafty Lady. I realized I didn't want my shop to consist of JUST scarves, so I started making a few rings and headbands, too. It all sort of fell into place, and I plan on adding different items to the shop (hand-carved jewelry made by my husband; more necklaces; different scarf styles). I'd love to eventually make it a full-time business so that I can work from home while finishing my degree. (Right now, it IS my full-time job since I quit my office job last month.)

Some of your scarves say finger-knit - what does that mean? How do you do it? I literally knit with my fingers! I don't use needles... Just my fingers and yarn. There are tutorials online that can describe it better than I do, but it's really fun, especially if you have an hour or two to spare.

How did you come up with the name for your shop? Is there a story behind Emory Sage? While I was considering names, I just couldn't think of anything to fit my shop. I wanted something whimsical and somewhat girly, and maybe a little earthy. Emory Sage is a name we have picked out for a future daughter (if we are blessed with a daughter!), and it just sort of stuck. I was somewhat unsure of whether I wanted to name my shop after a daughter that doesn't exist, but it sort of signifies all of my dreams come true. (We won't have a child until some of our "dreams" come true--a healthy, 5-year-old marriage [at least]; college degrees; financially stable...) So, I thought it fit perfectly.

What inspires you? A lot of things, really. Other shop owners and bloggers; nature (just sitting at school looking at the trees); drinking caffeine--no, really! When I drink an iced caramel macchiato, all sorts of ideas pop into my head!

How do you come up with the items in your shop? Do you create every day or is it a more "as it comes" mentality? It depends. Well, I come up with the items because they are items that I wear, too. I wear my chrysanthemum ring EVERY DAY. I wear the first scarf I made when it's cold outside, and I even wear the first felt flower hair clip I made. When it comes to creating, scarves take a bit more time, so I make them when I have a couple hours to spare. I've actually made one while going home from school; I've made one while sitting on my couch watching The Voice. I made one while sitting in the parking lot at school (when I was waiting on my husband's class to end) while it was pouring outside. With the rings and hair clips, I tend to make a bunch at once. I love crafting!

What's your favorite item in your shop right now? Does this ever change? Like I said, I wear everything in my shop, so I love everything. I especially like my chrysanthemum rings because I feel like they are whimsical and classy at the same time. I love my scarves, too. I do have a few favorite colors, but I tend to choose the yarn that I love, so they're all beautiful colors!

And just for fun, if you had to eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be? Pasta. It will always be pasta. (Especially seafood alfredo or chicken alfredo.)
What do you think? Aren't her creations so pretty and fun? Be sure to check out everything Megan's made in her shop Emory Sage. And as a special treat for you, she's offering you 10% off anything in her shop! Simply use the code LOVELIFE10 when checking out. Hurry though, the code is only valid for two weeks!

Her creations are gorgeous! I haven't heard of finger knitting - I am a traditional knitter, so I bet I could learn it!

I love her shop name!!
