All for one

It's the 4th of July. America's birthday. The day of our independence.

Some years you want your birthday to be quieter than others. That's what this year is for me. I'm enjoying my day off in the middle of the week, I'll be spending time with loved ones, and maybe even reading a book or two.

But I absolutely, positively, am grateful.

I'm grateful to the founding fathers of this country who were by no means perfect men, but did an incredible thing.

I'm grateful for the rights and freedoms I'm granted daily and most of the time take for granted.

And I'm grateful for the men and women in the armed forces - active and retired - who help keep the country safe, who protect those liberties with their time, their energy, and sometimes even their lives; the people who can't celebrate at home with a book because they're busy serving their country elsewhere.

Happy Birthday America. Thanks for being my home - and for all the people who are a part of it.
