Falling into classics

Remember at the beginning of the year when my goal for January was to create more time for reading - and then I blew it out of the water by reading nine books in a month?

So that was awesome.

I set an over-arching reading goal - a little challenge through Goodreads to read 40 books this year. I was afraid it was a bit ambitious but I figured I'd give it a try. In the past couple of months how much I've been reading has declined, but I'm still rocking my challenge considering I've already read 37  books.

Can you believe that? Thirty-seven books. (This also means you should friend me on Goodreads because we know I have not done 37 book reviews on the blog this year!)

I could make the rest of this challenge easy - I could find three light reads and call it a day year. But I've been bitten by the reading bug again lately and I don't just want to complete this goal, I want to really challenge myself and maybe even surpass it, which explains why my nightstand looks like this:
This isn't my plan for the rest of year - I'm aiming to read these by the end of September. (Okay Emma technically will be an October read, because I'm reading it with a friend, but close enough). The one on top is my kindle (in its awesome case), because I'm sure I'll have a couple on there as well.

Ambitious right? Maybe it's because I'm getting ready to transition into my favorite season, but I feel energized and invigorated - and nothing sounds better to me than coming home and curling up with a good book in the evenings under a big, cozy blanket.

Does how much you read ebb and flow throughout the year? What books are on your nightstand right now?

I have been reading up a storm lately, too! :) I have read 6 books this month and might finish my 7th this week! Right now I am reading "Night Circus" which is SO good so far. Before that, I read Bloom, which is a really beautiful memoir about finding beauty in the unexpected.

P.S. Can't wait for Austen in October. :)

I'm almost finished reading Loving Frank, which I'm really enjoying. I've got a bunch of books on my to read list and trying to pace myself, but I gave myself a challenge of reading 50 books this year and I'm way behind!

You're on a reading frenzy, that's awesome!! I think it's great you're challenging yourself a bit now, too. Makes things so much more fun! Plus, we're just at the age to enjoy the classics. I've been reading/re-reading a few myself. Enjoy!

That's awesome, Becky! I've also quickly reaching my Goodreads goal, but it was only 25. ;) I just finished reading Gone Girl, which was fantastic. I've actually never read The Great Gatsby (I feel like I missed a few of those classics) and my book club will be reading it this December. :)

Oy! I need to start the Eleanor book! I'm going to have put myself on a reading schedule! Have you read very much of it?

Yes, my reading really ebbs and flows, usually depending on what my school schedule is like. Right now on my nightstand is The Alcehmist, Insurgent, Jodi Picoult's two newest and The Bourne Identity (!) I need a vacay to just read!

I am not a super reader by any means, I think I've read like 5 or 6 books this year? I'm not sure I got bad about adding them to goodreads! haha. I do like to be reading a book ALWAYS but sometimes a book will take me several weeks to get through. Right now I have a few books I really want to read though so I'm going a little faster than normal!
