I've known Ben since first grade. We weren't the best of friends, but apparently I was cool enough to be the only girl invited to his birthday party. At said party I chose to watch a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video with him (instead of playing games), which solidified my "cool" status. (I later had to break the news to him that it had nothing to do with him - I loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).
In fourth grade I asked him to the end of the year picnic via a "check yes or no," note, and also experienced my first attempt at being coy when he came up to me and answered in person. (He obviously didn't understand the rules of check yes or no). We then proceeded to ignore each other during the picnic. Ah, young love.
We went to different middle schools but the same high school where we went to sophomore homecoming as friends, but started dating later that year. We broke up after nine months for what I'm sure was an earth-shattering reason then, but which neither of us can remember now.
In July of 2004 I randomly saw him on instant messenger and suggested we hang out and catch up. (I'm the girl who's friends with all her exes so this wasn't unusual for me). When I met up with him it was like being punched in the gut by chemistry I didn't know still existed!
We dated for almost two years when he proposed, and had been together almost three and a half by the time we got married in October of 2007. We had our engagement pictures taken at the elementary school where we met and while the school has changed, the butterflies in my stomach from the man I met there have not.
From first grade to forever my love.
